And worth a listen in my opinion…..

Shep Cooke – Concert Tour of Mars : Shep has a wonderfully engaging delivery in these country folk tunes. Some are quirky, some funny, not all are originals, but all are very well performed by this masterful player and performer. The man knows how to keep you listening. Very Tuneful.

Malvin Dino Vice – Rainbow Rhapsody : Wow! Here is one of the best urban pop R&B releases I have heard in some time…every one of these got me moving! With this compilation of different players and artists, pop this CD into the car stereo and just drive. Good and Groovy.

Boheme – Follow the Freedom : Well done production, good writing, and a razor sharp female lead are some of the great things this CD offers. She’s got one of those voices that make you stop in your tracks – it’s so clear, and so evocative, that it just grabs your ears. Upbeat Waves.

And worth a listen in my opinion…..

The Paul Garner Band – 3 Get Ready : Paul sings some straight-ahead blues while he plays his electric guitar and gets backed up by some tasty arrangements. While there’s nothing particularly new about that, I guess ultimately it’s the way he sings this stuff. Very Groovy.

The Drew Davies Rhythm Combo – You Make Me Shake : Jump Blues is what this group does, and does very well. You can’t help but move in your seat when you hear these grooves punctuated by that funky baritone sax – makes you wanna dance. True Party Music.

Dani Paige Band – Far From Here : There is something about Dani’s voice that really compliments these well-arranged originals – the writing here tells a kind of sadness, a knowing of how life can be both beautiful and tragic and change just that quickly. Beautiful Pop.

And worth a listen in my opinion…..

Dr. Dwayne Huff – Piano Music from America’s Guilded Age : This is a compilation of classical piano pieces composed by Robert Goldbeck and suggest the best of compositions by Beethoven, Chopin and Liszt. A treat for any lover of piano music in the Romantic style. Simply Beautiful.

Barry Greene – Urban Jazz II – A follow-up to the CD Urban Jazz, Greene has put down some very tasty and hip selections here. Barry has a real feel for this genre – very soulful, very well played and produced, this just may be my favorite jazz album this year. Smooth sounds.

Melic Thrum – Something Sweet to Hide Behind : This CD has something you don’t hear often enough in an original pop song compilation – a blending of genres and styles (all done very well). Great songwriting and appealing harmonies helps this one as well. Get the Pop Rocks.

And worth a listen in my opinion…..

Mario Carboni – Honky-Tonk Rebel : Now here’s a harkening back to the days when country music was infused with some good ‘ol honky-tonk piano rags and tinged with just a touch of blues. Mario has produced something really special here – a must have. Honky-Tonk Heaven.

Shannon Whitworth and Barrett Smith – Bring It On Home : When two voices are matched as well as these two are, and then backed up by really well done arrangements of well written songs, well how can you really go wrong. A wonderful Sunday afternoon listen. Very tasty.

Eryn Shewell & Pat Ruh – Children At Play : Two acoustic guitars, a major blues voice, and a whole lot of talent is all you’ll hear in this offering of acoustic covers. Eryn has hands down one of the best blues voices I have ever heard. It is soulful, clear, and compelling. Beautiful Blues.

And worth a listen in my opinion…..

Harry Dobbin – Weekend : This is a quirky, blues-infused pop offering from Harry Dobbin. It’s just the right mix of singular twists and hooks that suck you in and make you want to continue listening to what he’s going to sing about next. A Satlute to Uniqueness… (is that a word?).

The Shakedown Combo – Shakin’ Down : This is the real deal – Rockabilly with a kick. This group from Canada has honed this genre and taken it to a level worthy of the best of them. I also like that the song lyrics and subjects are also different enough to hold interest. Rockabilly On.

Fancy Babel – Plague of Man : Kind of brooding, and yet hooky at the same time. The production and excellent songwriting really make this CD soar. I was left hoping a follow-up looms. They clearly know how to produce quality. A must have for the collection. Finely tuned.
